Windows & Doors in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts

What applies to this work in Shrewsbury, Worcester County: Mass Save, rebates and financing, and the permit. Then the contractors serving the town.

30 contractors serving Shrewsbury.

Is Shrewsbury in Mass Save?

Partly. Shrewsbury is a municipal light plant town: its electricity comes from the Shrewsbury Electric & Cable Operations, and light plant customers are outside Mass Save's electric program. Eversource, an investor-owned gas company, also serves the town, so a home with an Eversource gas account can use Mass Save through it.

For weatherization, an Eversource gas account is enough, even one that only heats water. A home with no gas service uses the light plant's own programs.

Shrewsbury is on the state's list of municipal light plants; Mass Save in municipal light plant towns has the full decision tree.

Window rebates and financing in Shrewsbury

Through an Eversource gas account, Mass Save pays $75 per window in 2026, and only when ENERGY STAR Most Efficient windows replace single-pane windows after you complete the weatherization recommendations from a Home Energy Assessment.

Replacing double-pane windows earns no rebate. The 0% HEAT Loan can finance ENERGY STAR replacement windows, but only alongside completed weatherization recommendations.

Do you need a permit for replacement windows or doors in Shrewsbury?

Plan on one. Window and door replacement is not on the Massachusetts building code's list of permit-exempt work, and the Shrewsbury Building Department decides whether a same-size swap counts as an ordinary repair. 52% of Shrewsbury's homes were built before 1980 (Census ACS 2018-2022), and work that disturbs paint in a home built before 1978 has to follow the lead-safe renovation rules.

permits.llc carries the rules: its Massachusetts guide to the permit for replacement windows or doors and the Shrewsbury Building Department page, with the department's contact and portal.
