The Aulson Company, Inc.

The City of Methuen Inspectional Services requires a permit for any window or door replacement that changes the opening size, structural framing, or egress configuration. Like-for-like full-frame replacements in the existing rough opening typically don't need a permit but must still meet current egress code — important on the east-side mill stock where original bedroom openings are sometimes undersized. Pre-1978 buildings — most of the east side and a meaningful share of the western neighborhoods — fall under federal lead-safe RRP rules, which add $50–$150 per opening for documented containment and cleanup.

Window-and-door pricing in Methuen sits in the Merrimack Valley mid-tier — below Boston-metro rates and roughly in line with Haverhill and Lawrence. Standard vinyl full-frame replacements typically run $550–$1,000 per opening installed; mid-grade composite or wood-clad units run $1,300–$2,700 per opening. Entry door replacement is typically $1,900–$4,500 installed depending on material and sidelights. Net of the Mass Save air-sealing subsidy on the wraparound work, total project cost can land 15–25% below the equivalent project in a non-Mass-Save city.

Massachusetts requires a written contract and a Home Improvement Contractor registration for most residential window & door installation work; ask for the registration number and check it before paying a deposit.
