Service area
Based in Pembroke, Preferred Mechanical Services is within a short drive of Hanson (3 mi), Hanover (5 mi), Halifax (5 mi), Duxbury (6 mi), Marshfield (6 mi) and Kingston (6 mi). Most Massachusetts hvac contractors work a 25-mile radius, so homeowners in those towns can reasonably ask for a quote.
Hiring a HVAC contractor in Pembroke
Pembroke requires a building permit for any HVAC system replacement, filed with the town Building Department. Heat pump retrofits need a separate electrical permit for the dedicated circuits and outdoor disconnect. Permits are usually reviewed within a few business days, and reputable contractors handle the filings and inspections as part of the job. Pond-side and wetland-adjacent lots may have extra siting requirements for outdoor equipment, so confirm placement early on waterfront properties.
HVAC costs in Pembroke run near the South Shore suburban average. A full whole-home heat pump retrofit generally runs $18,000–$30,000 before rebates; a single-zone ductless mini-split is usually $4,500–$8,000 installed; a like-for-like boiler or furnace replacement falls around $7,500–$13,000. Homes with usable existing ductwork can land at the lower end of the retrofit range because a ducted heat pump reuses the distribution system rather than adding multiple indoor heads.
Massachusetts requires a written contract and a Home Improvement Contractor registration for most residential hvac work; ask for the registration number and check it before paying a deposit.
