Service area
Based in Boston, NS Builders is within a short drive of Chelsea (4 mi), Winthrop (4 mi), Everett (5 mi), Somerville (5 mi), Cambridge (5 mi) and Brookline (6 mi). Most Massachusetts decks & porches contractors work a 25-mile radius, so homeowners in those towns can reasonably ask for a quote.
Hiring a Decks & Porches contractor in Boston
File with Boston ISD for any attached or elevated deck. A typical permit package includes plot plan, framing drawings with ledger detail, and footing specs. Expect one to three weeks for standard review; historic-district projects add the Landmarks Commission step. Conservation Commission filing is required for any work within 100 feet of a wetland resource area, including tidal flats and the Charles.
Deck construction in Boston runs among the highest in the state, reflecting union-adjacent labor rates, parking and access constraints in dense neighborhoods, and the difficulty of working on attached row houses. Pressure-treated pine decks run roughly $18,000 to $30,000 installed; composite or PVC (Trex, TimberTech, Azek) adds $8,000 to $15,000 to those figures. Full porch enclosures on Victorians in Jamaica Plain or Roxbury routinely run $35,000 to $60,000.
Massachusetts requires a written contract and a Home Improvement Contractor registration for most residential decks & porches work; ask for the registration number and check it before paying a deposit.
