Based in Waltham, Marksman Gate is within a short drive of Belmont (2 mi), Watertown (2 mi), Arlington (3 mi), Newton (4 mi), Lexington (4 mi) and Cambridge (5 mi). Most Massachusetts fencing contractors work a 25-mile radius, so homeowners in those towns can reasonably ask for a quote.
Hiring a Fencing contractor in Waltham
Waltham requires a permit for most fences through the Building Department, and your installer must hold a state Home Improvement Contractor registration. The application includes a plot plan showing the fence relative to your boundary. Post footings should reach about 48 inches below grade to clear the frost line, though rocky lots can force rock drilling. Call Dig Safe (811) before digging posts. Properties near the Charles or Hardy Pond may need a Conservation Commission filing before the permit issues.
Fence costs in Waltham run in the upper-middle band for the inner-western suburbs. Cedar or pressure-treated privacy fence runs roughly $42 to $70 per linear foot installed; vinyl/PVC runs $46 to $84; ornamental aluminum runs $50 to $88; chain-link is the budget option at $23 to $42. Ledge on rocky lots, any wetland filing near the Charles, and old fence removal are the main cost drivers.
Massachusetts requires a written contract and a Home Improvement Contractor registration for most residential fencing work; ask for the registration number and check it before paying a deposit.
