A like-for-like window or door swap in Duxbury generally doesn't need a building permit, since the opening stays the same. Permits come into play for structural changes — enlarging an opening, adding a window, or installing an egress window. Coastal Duxbury adds two wrinkles: work near wetlands or the shoreline may trigger Conservation Commission review, and homes in the town's historic areas can require approval before exterior alterations. Check with the Duxbury building department, especially for waterfront or older-center properties.

Window and door costs in Duxbury run toward the higher South Shore band, reflecting coastal labor and the premium for storm-rated products. Standard double-hung replacements typically run $650–$1,200 each installed, with impact-rated coastal glazing higher. Insulated or fiberglass entry doors built to handle salt air commonly run $2,000–$4,500 installed, and large patio sliders or French doors more. Waterfront exposure, second-story access, and custom sizes in antique homes are the main cost drivers.

Massachusetts requires a written contract and a Home Improvement Contractor registration for most residential window & door installation work; ask for the registration number and check it before paying a deposit.
