Imagine Construction

Harwich issues building permits through its Building Department, with separate plumbing, electrical, and gas permits required when fixtures move or an appliance is added; standard residential remodels typically clear in one to two weeks. The defining Cape wrinkle is wastewater: projects on private septic that add fixtures or bedrooms can trigger Title 5 and Board of Health review, and Conservation Commission jurisdiction applies near Harwich's many ponds, the harbors, and the Nantucket Sound shoreline. Contractor availability tightens through the busy season.

Harwich sits in the Cape band, where pricing runs above central and western Massachusetts because of seasonal labor demand and bridge-influenced logistics. Mid-range bath remodels typically run $17,000–$31,000; kitchens generally land $32,000–$58,000 mid-range, into the $75,000s for custom work in higher-value waterfront-area homes. Cost drivers include septic and Title 5 considerations, corrosion-resistant fixtures for salt exposure, and the off-season scheduling premium when crews are stretched thin in summer.

Massachusetts requires a written contract and a Home Improvement Contractor registration for most residential kitchen & bath remodel work; ask for the registration number and check it before paying a deposit.
