Hiring a Fencing contractor in Northborough
Northborough generally requires a building or zoning permit for a new fence, and the contractor must hold state Home Improvement Contractor (HIC) registration. The Building Department reviews height and setbacks before issuing it. Set post footings about 48 inches below grade for frost; central Massachusetts ground can hold rock or hardpan, so installers may need to drill or relocate a post. Pull a plot plan before building on a boundary, and call Dig Safe (811) before digging. Lots near the Assabet River or town brooks add a Conservation Commission filing.
Central Massachusetts fence pricing runs below the eastern metro. Expect roughly $25–$45 per linear foot for chain-link, $32–$60 for cedar privacy, $42–$78 for vinyl, and $48–$88 for ornamental aluminum, all installed. A 150 ft vinyl run lands around $7,000–$12,500. Occasional ledge or hardpan, pool-barrier gates, and Conservation Commission filings near the Assabet River push the total higher.
Massachusetts requires a written contract and a Home Improvement Contractor registration for most residential fencing work; ask for the registration number and check it before paying a deposit.
