Based in Haverhill, Extreme Plumbing is within a short drive of Groveland (3 mi), Georgetown (5 mi), Merrimac (6 mi), West Newbury (6 mi), Methuen (6 mi) and Boxford (7 mi). Most Massachusetts hvac contractors work a 25-mile radius, so homeowners in those towns can reasonably ask for a quote.
Hiring a HVAC contractor in Haverhill
The City of Haverhill requires a building permit for HVAC system replacement through the Inspectional Services Department, with a separate electrical permit for any new heat pump circuits. Standard permits typically clear in a few business days. Properties in the Highlands Historic District and a few smaller local historic areas downtown need additional review for visible exterior changes — outdoor heat pump condensers facing the street usually need Historic Commission sign-off.
HVAC costs in Haverhill track the Merrimack Valley market — generally below Boston metro pricing. A like-for-like gas boiler replacement is typically $6,500–$10,500 installed; a single-zone ductless mini-split runs $4,000–$7,000; a whole-home cold-climate heat pump retrofit is typically $17,000–$29,000 before rebates. Mill-conversion condos can add complexity because of refrigerant-line routing through shared mechanical spaces; HOA approval is sometimes a longer-pole-in-the-tent than the install itself.
Massachusetts requires a written contract and a Home Improvement Contractor registration for most residential hvac work; ask for the registration number and check it before paying a deposit.
