Hiring a Landscaping contractor in Hadley
Retaining walls 4 feet and taller from footing need engineered plans and a Hadley Building Department permit per MA State Building Code. At-grade patios and walks don't need a building permit but do need ConCom review inside wetland or Riverfront Area buffers. Stormwater requirements have tightened in recent years and bigger projects often need a basic stormwater plan. Plan 8–12 weeks for permit + ConCom review on Riverfront Area work.
Pioneer Valley landscaping prices run below the eastern MA average. Weekly mow service on a typical lot runs $50–$95. A 300 sq ft bluestone patio installed runs $10,000–$18,000. Fieldstone walls run $150–$300 per face foot. Drainage and grading on heavy clay or river-bottom soils — common on Hadley's western flats — is where budgets stretch; French drains and engineered swales add real cost when groundwater is high.
Massachusetts requires a written contract and a Home Improvement Contractor registration for most residential landscaping work; ask for the registration number and check it before paying a deposit.
