Sinclaire Home Services

Norwood requires a permit for HVAC system replacement, processed through the town Building Department, with a separate electrical permit through the Wiring Inspector for new heat pump circuits or panel upgrades. Permits typically issue within a week or two. Older homes near downtown sometimes have smaller electrical services that need upgrading to support a heat pump; that work should be quoted with the project. Inspections usually run rough electrical first, then a final after equipment commissioning.

Norwood pricing sits in the mid-tier of Massachusetts HVAC work — modestly below the inner Route 128 ring suburbs and roughly in line with the broader south-of-Boston market. A whole-home cold-climate heat pump retrofit typically runs $20,000–$32,000 before any rebates, single-zone ductless mini-splits are $4,500–$7,500 installed, and a like-for-like gas furnace replacement is $6,500–$10,500. In Norwood the Mass Save heat pump rebate depends on what you heat with: a heat pump replacing gas heat qualifies through an investor-owned gas account, while oil, propane and electric-resistance homes have no participating account and use Norwood Municipal Light Department's own heat pump rebate instead.

Massachusetts requires a written contract and a Home Improvement Contractor registration for most residential hvac work; ask for the registration number and check it before paying a deposit.
