Electrical work in Canton requires a permit under 527 CMR 12.00, the Massachusetts amendments to the National Electrical Code, performed by a licensed Journeyman or Master electrician. Permits are filed with the Canton Building Department and the town wiring inspector inspects before energizing. Panel upgrades, EV circuits, generators, aluminum-wiring remediation, and rewires all require permits; like-for-like device swaps generally don't. The meter and service connection are coordinated with Eversource as part of any service upgrade.

Canton pricing sits in the Boston metro band, a notch below the urban core. A 100A-to-200A panel upgrade typically runs $2,700–$5,000. A Level 2 EV-charger circuit usually lands at $1,000–$2,200 depending on the run to the garage. Aluminum-branch remediation is priced per device and varies with house size. A whole-home generator with a transfer switch generally runs $8,500–$15,000 installed. Knob-and-tube rewires in older homes near the center can run $7,500–$17,000 depending on access.

Massachusetts requires a written contract and a Home Improvement Contractor registration for most residential electrical work; ask for the registration number and check it before paying a deposit.
